A special feature of MLT’s production of Spoon River Anthology is the fiddle music provided by Susan and Ben Ruth of Swampscott. Susan and Ben have been lifting COVID-weary spirits in their neighborhood, fiddling on their porch since the early spring. Ben, a renowned violinmaker, started playing fiddle as a teen and recently rediscovered his love for Irish fiddle music Benjaminruthviolins.com.
Susan sells Ben’s instruments to talented musicians nationally, and has played violin since she was 8. Susan now plays in a local band, “Blue Honey Drops” and has a love of Irish, Bluegrass and America music.
Susan is playing on a recently completed Benjamin Ruth violin on these recordings.
Since we only hear little bits of their music during the brief transitions in Spoon River Anthology, here are some links to a couple of songs in their entirety.
