Marblehead Little Theatre is pleased to announce Non-Equity Adult Auditions for:

The Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

Auditions: 
Saturday, November 4 from 2-5pm
Sunday, November 5 from 1-4pm

Callbacks: Wednesday, November 8 at 7:30 pm (a more specific time window will be announced if a callback is offered).

Auditions and Callbacks will take place at
Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School St., Marblehead, MA

Please Prepare: 32 bar cuts from contrasting songs (uptempo/patter and lyrical ballad) that show vocal range in the style of the musical. Examples of this would be Golden Age, Gilbert and Sullivan, Rodgers and Hart, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Comedic Sondheim. Operetta in English is welcome, a song displaying a British accent is encouraged, and songs from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder are allowed.

Bring sheet music to the audition, hole-punched in a binder, and an accompanist will be provided. 

Please note: All actors and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for this production. Please bring proof of vaccination to your audition.

Rehearsal Schedule: Rehearsals begin in mid-November continuing in December and January.  When scheduling your audition appointment please be sure to check off possible conflict dates in the on line forms.

About the Show: Set in London in 1907, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder centers on Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk who is informed after the death of his mother that he is ninth in line to inherit the earldom of Highhurst. After his inheritance claim is dismissed by the rest of the family, the eight others in line before him begin dying. Convoluted relationships add wit to the rollickingly clever musical fun.

The D’Ysquith Family – Male presenting, Lead, Baritone – (one actor plays these characters: Asquith D’Ysquith, Jr., a dandy; Lord Adlabert D’Ysquith, Eighth Earl of Highhurst; Reverend Lord Ezekiel D’Ysquith, a clergyman; Lord Adlabert D’Ysquith, Sr., an elderly banker; Henry D’Ysquith, a country squire; Lady Hyacinth D’Ysquith, a benefactress; Major Lord Bartholomew D’Ysquith, a bodybuilder; Lady Salome D’Ysquith Pumphrey, an actress; Chauncey D’Ysquith, a janitor)

Montague “Monty” D’Ysquith Navarro – Male presenting, Lead, Baritone – Handsome, clever, charismatic, vulnerable and endearing. Discovers he is in line to become the Earl of Highhurst, and intends to kill off the family that stands in his way.

Sibella Holland (nee Hallward) – Female presenting, Supporting, Soprano – The girl Monty loves.

Marietta Shingle – Female presenting, Supporting, Mezzo-Soprano – Monty’s unexpected visitor.

Phoebe D’Ysquith – Female presenting, Supporting, Soprano – Monty’s cousin.
